YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO BE LAZY

It is key that we give ourselves reality checks. One of the biggest obstacles we will have in our lives, if not the biggest obstacle, will be ourselves. Too often do we get in our own way with out self-deprecating beliefs, and often we sweet talk ourselves out of doing things that are hard and difficult.

I came to a strong realization yesterday.

I was watching an amazing video I will put a link to it at the end of the post, but basically, it was about a teacher. He was known as an amazing teacher that had incredible sympathy for his students, that showed amazing passion, and was able to captivate all of his students. However, within the second half of the video, it focused on his son. He suffered from a rare disease where he could not control his body. His brain was fully functioning, but he could not control his body.

What kind of hell is that? Imagine being fully cognizant, you understand everything that is going around you, there are things that you want to do, but because of how you were born, you can’t do a goddamn thing about it.

Now think of yourself, as I did. I am trying to be in the best shape possible. I am pushing myself everyday to be better, faster, and stronger than I was the day before. I am pushing  myself, because I know if that boy had my body, he would be doing the same thing. If I could not move my body willingly, all I would ever dream about would be pushing my body and being the strongest motherfucker I could be.

If you not pushing yourself as hard as you physically can. If you are not constantly trying to get stronger, more flexible, more athletic, you are pissing on those who don’t have the opportunity to do so. Let me say that again.

IF YOU ARE NOT TRYING TO BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE PHYSICALLY THAT IS A GIANT FUCK YOU TO THE KID, AND ANYBODY ELSE WHO WOULD DIE TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY THAT YOU HAVE.

Live life not just for yourself. Do not try to be the best person that you can be just for yourself. Be the best that you can be because you owe it those that had that opportunity stolen away from them.

YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO COMPLAIN.

YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO CHEAT.

YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO BE LAZY.

A LOT OF YOU DO NOT EVEN DESERVE TO SLEEP.

One question I ask myself often when I go to bed is, “Do I even deserve to go to sleep right now?”. What did I do during the day to deserve rest? The only way to deserve rest is to work.

Push yourself physically. Push yourself mentally. Be the best person that you can be. Don’t just do it for you, do it for those who can’t.

It’s that simple,

-Sam

  1. As a person with a neuromuscular disease = i can barely move, i appreciate this perspective. Thank you for seeing his humanity although i hope it doesn’t border on pitty. Even in my condition my whole essence of being is to live for my people that cannot e.g. People with worse disabilities. I’m 22 years old and im applying for a phd, i write my essays in hospital beds and ambulances. I sit in a chair for 12hrs a day till i have sores spending 6hrs in the library while my peers waste their days on hedonistic (fleeting) pleasures. So….no one should ever be lazy if they know they can do more.
